CLOUD COMPUTING

 CLOUD COMPUTING SERVICES

·      Cloud computing is the supply of processing power, storage, applications, and other IT resources through a cloud services platform via the internet instead of your local server or a personal computer.

·      “Cloud” is used as a representation for internet.

·      Example: Microsoft Office 365 is a cloud application software package and Microsoft OneDrive, Google drive, Apple iCloud and Amazon cloud drive are cloud storages.

Advantages of cloud computing

·      Data centres are easily accessible; at any time you can access your data.

·      Operation costs are cheap

·      It is possible to own a dedicated data pipe if you have bandwidth-intensive applications

·      Flexible bandwidth; it gives clients opportunity to use more resources during their busy times.

·      Users can drag and drop files between the cloud storage and their local storage.

·      Users can email a web link of a file to recipients instead of attaching the file.

·      Cloud storage can be used as a backup.

Disadvantages of cloud computing

·      It is only functional when there is internet.

·      It requires an expert-consult and who understands the client’s needs and the technology required.

·      Cloud outage incidents that affect reliable service are beyond the client’s control.

·      Bandwidth can be limited, such that an extra fee is charged for excess use.

Safety and privacy of important data is a concern
